How GRIT can help in the preservation of Covid-19 vaccines
Amid the #COVID19 pandemic, Pharmaceutical companies are exploiting their efforts to find a suitable vaccine. Last information regarding these efforts showed a potential vaccine with promising initial results.
A concerning point raised together with the announcement of the vaccine related to the cold chain needed for the transport and storage of the vaccine. The main issue is that the vaccine, which is based on a novel technology that uses synthetic mRNA to activate the immune system against the virus, needs to be kept at minus 70 degrees Celsius (-94 F) or below.
Being a refrigerant specialist GRIT has deeply reviewed the case and potential refrigerant gases needed for such challenging aspect of the vaccine. The complex and super-cold storage requirements have been analysed by GRIT’s technical department developing the following brochure of products that may fit under the extremely high requirements needed.
Products proposed on this brochure are:
- R-23: Trifluoro methane. GRIT’s special recovery system is able to reclaim this refrigerant minimizing the environmental impact and promoting the circular economy. Additionally, is a non-flammable refrigerant.
- R-1150: Ethylene. GRIT’s cryogenic tank allows fast refilling and delivery in a wide range of packaging. R-1150 is a low GWP refrigerant.
- R-170: Ethane. Hydrocarbon refrigerant A3 with low GWP
Following GRIT’s compromise with quality all refrigerant offered by GRIT fulfil AHRI700 standards.
