Brussels, 24 June 2026 – A new European industry association has been established today with the objective of supporting the proper implementation of EU climate legislation and strengthening the integrity of the refrigerant market across Europe.
The European Refrigerants Distributors and Reclaimers Association (Euredia) is the first pan-European organisation representing refrigerant distributors, packagers and reclaimers.
Euredia brings together companies committed to ensuring that refrigerants placed on the EU market are recovered, managed and treated at the end of their service life in a legal, safe and responsible manner, in line with the EU’s decarbonisation objectives through regulatory compliance, traceability and the promotion of the circular economy.
The creation of the association comes at a pivotal moment for the sector, as the European Union moves forward with the implementation of the revised F-Gas Regulation and accelerates the phase-down of fluorinated refrigerants. At the same time, illegal trade, uneven enforcement of legislation and fragmented implementation among Member States continue to undermine the functioning of the internal market and the achievement of the EU’s climate objectives.
“Distributors and reclamation companies are the link where European refrigerant policy becomes an operational reality,” said Hans Craen, President of Euredia. “Our members are committed to regulatory compliance, refrigerant recovery and the legal circulation of refrigerants across borders and throughout their entire life cycle. Euredia was created to bring this practical experience directly into the European policy debate.”
As the only European association dedicated to this segment of the value chain, Euredia aims to provide EU institutions and national authorities with practical market insight, contributing to the development of effective, enforceable and evidence-based regulatory measures.
The association will focus on three strategic priorities:
- Ensuring compliance by promoting the proper implementation and enforcement of European refrigerant legislation across all Member States.
- Strengthening market integrity by combating the illegal trade in refrigerants and promoting a level playing field for all market operators.
- Advancing the circular economy by promoting the recovery, reclamation and reuse of refrigerants.
Illegal refrigerant trade remains a growing challenge in the European market, with organised networks increasingly exploiting legal loopholes in the enforcement of European legislation and regulatory differences between countries.
Euredia advocates stronger customs controls and enhanced market surveillance mechanisms, as well as closer cooperation between the competent authorities. The association also supports improving refrigerant traceability systems and strengthening cooperation between Member States and European institutions.
The circular economy is also a key priority for the association. The reclamation process—through the treatment of previously used refrigerants and their reintroduction to the market with quality equivalent to virgin refrigerants—plays a vital role in reducing emissions and decreasing dependence on newly produced gases. Euredia supports measures that expand reclamation capacity, improve refrigerant recovery practices and increase transparency throughout the entire supply chain.
“The European Union has one of the world’s most advanced refrigerant legislations, but its success depends on consistent implementation and effective enforcement,” said Carmine Marotta, Vice-President of Euredia. “Euredia exists to support a refrigerant market that is transparent, compliant with legislation and capable of delivering both climate objectives and fair market competition.”
Euredia represents 10 founding companies operating in Austria, Belgium, France, Germany, Greece, Italy, the Netherlands, Spain and Sweden. The founding members include A-Gas, Beijer Ref, Climalife, Gazechim, General Gas, GRIT, Kontes, Nippon Sanso, Tazzetti and Westfalen.
Euredia’s leadership reflects this pan-European expertise, with Hans Craen (A-Gas) serving as President, Carmine Marotta (General Gas) as Vice-President and Vincent de Badereau (Climalife) as Treasurer.
The association will work closely with European policymakers, national authorities and industry stakeholders in the implementation of EU legislation relating to refrigerants, including issues concerning the circular economy, market surveillance and the transition towards refrigerants with a lower Global Warming Potential (GWP).
About Euredia
Euredia is the pan-European voice of refrigerant distributors, packagers and reclaimers. It represents companies committed to ensuring that refrigerants are placed on the EU market in a legal, safe and responsible manner, in full compliance with EU legislation and climate objectives. The association works to promote and advance these objectives through the circular economy and a responsible, sustainable transition.
