GRIT Introduces the Near Future of Low GWP DROP IN Refrigerants
We are at a pivotal moment in the industry, with a 55% reduction in the use of harmful gases since 2015 and a further 28% this year alone, translating into a lower availability of high GWP (Global Warming Potential) refrigerants.
At GRIT, we seek to offer solutions to our clients which are in line with industry and environmental regulations, which is why we are extremely pleased to present two alternative products that offer uniquely low GWP in the market.
R-470B, commercially known as RS-51, and R-470A, commercially known as RS-53 are both patented and ASHRAE approved refrigerant gases.
RS-51 is a direct replacement “drop-in” (does not require any modification or change) for the gases R-404A, R-507A, R-448A and R-449A, as it is a non-flammable and non-toxic high security refrigerant (A1) and is valid under the same working conditions.
On the other hand, RS-53 is the only existing direct replacement “drop-in” for R-410A refrigerant gas. It is a non-flammable and non-toxic (A1) high security substitute, with a similar cooling capacity and energy efficiency without the need to adjust any settings in the system.
Lower GWP equals lower tax on fluorinated gases
As we have mentioned, RS-51 and RS-53 are refrigerants adapted to the F-Gas regulations, as they have a lower GWP than other products on the market. Below is a comparison with the products they seek to replace:
A lower GWP will translate into a considerable reduction of the existing fluorinated gas tax in Spain.
With regards to RS-51, because its GWP is approximately 45% lower than R-448A and R-449A, it offers the advantage of having the lowest tax on direct replacement “drop-in” fluorinated gases (€ 11.13 / kg).
Regarding RS-53, because its GWP is approximately 53% lower than R-410A, the tax on fluorinated gases that applies to this product is lower, at € 14.69 / kg, compared to € 31.32 / kg of R-410A.
Both products offer a great GWP advantage over the current refrigerants and higher profitability due to lower taxes. This is not only a direct benefit in terms of environmental impact, but also increases the longevity of the equipment in which they are used as they will be more widely available.
